Our food-safety commitment

swapti works with participating home chefs and food providers to offer freshly prepared meals to customers. Food safety is an important part of how meals are prepared, handled, packed and delivered.

Our food-safety practices are intended to follow applicable requirements under India's food-safety framework, including the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and applicable rules and regulations issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

Food-safety requirements can vary depending on the type and scale of food business. swapti and participating food businesses are responsible for obtaining and maintaining any registrations, licences, permissions and approvals applicable to their operations.

Our food-safety approach is informed by applicable Indian food-safety requirements, including:

Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006

The principal legislation establishing India's framework for regulating food safety and food standards.

FSSAI Licensing & Registration

Applicable food businesses must obtain the appropriate FSSAI registration or licence as required for their business category.

Hygiene & Sanitary Practices

Applicable hygiene and sanitary practices, including relevant Schedule 4 requirements, form an important part of food handling and preparation.

Food Standards & Safety Requirements

Food ingredients, preparation, handling, storage, packaging and other applicable operations are subject to relevant food-safety requirements.

Participating food-preparation locations are expected to maintain appropriate hygiene and sanitary conditions. Depending on the applicable requirements, this includes practices such as:

Clean preparation areas

Food should be prepared in clean and appropriately maintained areas suitable for food handling.

Personal hygiene

Food handlers should maintain appropriate personal hygiene and follow safe food handling practices.

Safe water and cleaning

Water, utensils, equipment and food-contact surfaces should be appropriately maintained and cleaned.

Pest and contamination control

Appropriate measures should be taken to prevent contamination and control pests in food-preparation and storage areas.

Ingredients and raw materials

We expect food businesses participating on swapti to source ingredients from appropriate suppliers and use ingredients that are suitable for human consumption.

  • Ingredients should be checked for quality and suitability before use.
  • Food should be stored under appropriate conditions.
  • Perishable ingredients should be handled and stored appropriately.
  • Expired or unsuitable ingredients should not be used for customer meals.
  • Appropriate stock rotation practices should be followed where applicable.

Food preparation and cooking

Meals should be prepared using appropriate food-handling and cooking practices. Particular attention should be given to preventing cross-contamination between raw and cooked foods.

Proper cooking

Food should be cooked using appropriate methods suitable for the food being prepared.

Prevent cross-contamination

Raw ingredients and ready-to-eat foods should be appropriately separated and handled.

Temperature control

Appropriate temperature controls should be used for food that requires heating, cooling or refrigeration.

Packaging and handling

Meals should be packed using food-contact materials and packaging suitable for the intended food and handling conditions.

  • Packaging should be clean and suitable for food contact.
  • Meals should be protected from avoidable contamination during handling.
  • Packaging should be appropriately closed or secured before delivery.
  • Food should be transported in a manner appropriate to its nature and intended consumption.

Delivery and food handling

Once a meal has been prepared and packed, reasonable care should be taken during handling and transportation to maintain its safety and quality.

Freshness matters

Customers should receive and consume meals promptly after delivery and follow any storage or reheating instructions provided with the meal.

Allergies and dietary requirements

If you have a food allergy, intolerance, medical dietary requirement or other restriction, please review the available meal information and contact swapti before ordering where necessary.

Important allergy notice

Meals may be prepared in environments where different ingredients are handled. Therefore, swapti cannot guarantee that a meal is completely free from a particular allergen unless a specific allergen-free service has been expressly confirmed.

If something doesn't look right

Food safety is a shared responsibility. If you believe that a meal is spoiled, contaminated, damaged, contains an unexpected foreign object, or otherwise appears unsafe to consume, do not consume it.

Please contact swapti as soon as reasonably possible and provide your order details and, where appropriate, photographs or other relevant information so that the issue can be investigated.

Customer responsibilities

  • Provide an accurate delivery address and contact information.
  • Follow any storage, reheating or consumption instructions provided with your meal.
  • Inform swapti about relevant allergies or dietary restrictions where appropriate.
  • Report suspected food-safety issues promptly.

Our regulatory responsibility

swapti aims to operate its food-related services in accordance with applicable Indian food-safety laws and regulations. Participating food businesses are expected to obtain and maintain the FSSAI registration or licence applicable to their operations and follow relevant food-safety and hygiene requirements.
